India reports 23 percent growth in net direct tax collections through August 10

The Central Board of Direct Taxes reported that net direct tax collections grew by 23.09 percent to exceed Rs 8.11 lakh crore by August 10. This total includes a 19.83 percent rise in net corporate tax collections to Rs 2.70 lakh crore and a 23 percent increase in non-corporate tax collections, which includes personal income tax, to Rs 5.07 lakh crore. Additionally, Securities Transaction Tax revenues saw a 51 percent increase to Rs 33,824 crore, while the government issued Rs 1.43 lakh crore in tax refunds during the same period.

The growth in tax collections is attributed to increased economic activity, higher corporate earnings, and improved tax compliance. Despite the issuance of tax refunds, which grew by 3.8 percent over the year-ago period, the net collection figures reflect a sustained upward trend in government revenue for the current fiscal year.
