The Union Cabinet has approved the GOBARdhan scheme, a national initiative with an outlay of Rs 23,731 crore aimed at increasing domestic compressed biogas production ten-fold. The scheme, which will be implemented from the 2026-27 to 2035-36 financial years, seeks to convert agricultural residue, cattle dung, and municipal organic waste into clean fuel and organic manure to enhance energy security and rural income.
