India rejects arbitration ruling on Indus Waters Treaty, terms body illegally constituted

India has rejected an arbitration ruling concerning the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague was illegally constituted and its decisions will not affect India's sovereign actions or ongoing projects. The Ministry of External Affairs asserted that India has never acknowledged the legal existence or authority of this court, which it claims was formed in violation of the treaty's provisions. The ruling reportedly stated that the treaty remains in force and asked India to limit work on a hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir.
