Punjab government removes Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar

The Punjab government issued an order on Friday to remove Gurpreet Singh Bhullar from his position as the Police Commissioner of Amritsar. Harmanbir Singh Gill, the current DIG of the Border Range, has been appointed to hold the additional charge of the office. The decision comes shortly after Bhullar held a press conference alleging that Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI, had orchestrated a terror plot involving individuals at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Bhullar had previously claimed that nine individuals, including four minors, were arrested in connection with the alleged plot, with authorities seizing pistols, ammunition, and petrol bombs. While the government has officially attributed the transfer to administrative grounds, the move has drawn attention due to the controversial nature of the claims made by the former commissioner. The incident has become a subject of political discussion, with opposition parties questioning the circumstances surrounding his sudden removal.
