West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari orders fresh probe into RG Kar case

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced a new investigation into the 2024 rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The decision was made following a request from the victim's mother, Ratna Debnath, who is now a BJP MLA. Adhikari stated that the government will form an inquiry commission under the Special Commission Act of 1952 to examine the case. Additionally, the government will investigate the circumstances of the victim's cremation, which occurred shortly after the incident.

Adhikari alleged that the police failed to properly discharge their responsibilities during the initial investigation of the case. The state government also announced that annual programs will be held to mark Abhaya Day in memory of the victim. The move comes two years after the incident, which drew significant national attention.
