BSF personnel shoot and kill Bangladeshi national in Tripura

A Bangladeshi national, identified as 24-year-old Tara Mia, was killed by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura. The incident occurred late Saturday night near pillar number 1845/63-S in the Maguruli area of the Gournagar block. BSF personnel reported observing a group of five to six individuals attempting to cross the border with smuggled goods, including Burmese cigarettes, and stated that the group ignored repeated warnings to retreat before the firing took place.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials have identified the deceased as a resident of the Murichara settlement in Kulaura. The incident has led to heightened tensions along the border region, with local authorities increasing surveillance measures in response to the suspected smuggling activity. While the BSF maintains that the group was engaged in illegal border crossing and smuggling, the event has drawn attention to the ongoing security challenges and the frequency of illicit movement across the international boundary.
