Jawaharlal Nehru University cancels auditorium booking for Umar Khalid book discussion

Jawaharlal Nehru University authorities cancelled the booking of the School of Social Sciences auditorium for a discussion on the book Fractured Communities: Adivasi Histories and the Politics of Power. The event was organised by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union to coincide with the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. While the university administration stated that the cancellation was due to the non-disclosure of full facts regarding the programme, the students' union maintained that no specific reason was provided at the time of the initial notice.

The students' union has described the administration's decision as an attempt to suppress academic discussion and dissent. Members of the faculty and student groups have criticised the move as an infringement on academic freedom. The students' union has confirmed that the discussion will continue as planned at an alternative venue despite the loss of the original auditorium booking.
