Kerala teacher suspended over school quiz question regarding V.D. Savarkar

A teacher at a school in Pallathadukka, Kasaragod, was suspended following the inclusion of a controversial question in a primary-level quiz competition held on August 6. The quiz, conducted across schools in the Manjeshwaram, Kumbla, and Kasaragod sub-districts, asked students to identify the freedom fighter who received the most severe punishment from the British, with the provided answer being V.D. Savarkar. Following public outcry and protests from various organizations, the Director of General Education ordered disciplinary proceedings and an inquiry into the matter.

The incident has triggered a political row, with critics accusing the quiz organizers of promoting a specific ideological agenda and disseminating historically unsupported information. While some political figures have condemned the inclusion of the question as an attempt to glorify Savarkar, others have defended the historical accuracy of the claim regarding his imprisonment.
