NALSAR University students oppose invitation of CJI Surya Kant as convocation chief guest

Approximately 450 students from the 2026 graduating batch at the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law in Hyderabad have signed a letter addressed to the university administration. The letter urges the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and faculty to reconsider the decision to invite Chief Justice of India Surya Kant as the chief guest for the upcoming convocation ceremony. While the university has not yet officially announced the date or the guest list, students have expressed their opposition through formal representations to the university leadership.

The students' objections are rooted in recent judicial proceedings and public remarks attributed to the Chief Justice. Specifically, the students highlighted concerns over comments comparing certain unemployed individuals to parasites and cockroaches, as well as the Supreme Court's handling of petitions concerning protests at Jantar Mantar and the NEET examination controversy. The students contend that these developments reflect an indifference toward the concerns of the public and are inconsistent with the values they believe the university should uphold.
