Assam flood death toll reaches 100 as government begins damage survey

The flood situation in Assam has resulted in 100 fatalities this year, following the recovery of two bodies in the Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 1.37 lakh people are currently impacted across seven districts, with Golaghat identified as the most severely affected area. Relief operations are ongoing, with authorities managing multiple relief camps and distribution centers to support displaced residents.

Following three weeks of severe flooding that began in mid-July, the state government has launched a comprehensive survey to evaluate the extent of the damage. This assessment, which covers districts including Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat, aims to facilitate the distribution of compensation and rehabilitation assistance to affected families. The survey is expected to conclude by August 30, as officials work to address the loss of homes, livestock, and agricultural land.
