Mamata Banerjee's convoy attacked in North 24 Parganas

Mamata Banerjee was traveling to Halisahar in the North 24 Parganas district to meet the family of Birju Keot, a party worker who recently died while in police custody. During the journey, her convoy was intercepted by a group of protesters near Bijpur. The demonstrators surrounded her vehicle, chanted slogans calling her a thief, and threw mud, shoes, and stones at the car. Banerjee stated that the attack could have resulted in serious injury or death had the vehicle windows been open.

Following the incident, Banerjee and other Trinamool Congress leaders accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of orchestrating the attack and criticized the state administration for a lack of security. The Bharatiya Janata Party has denied involvement in the incident and condemned the reported violence. The event occurred amid ongoing political tensions in the region following the death of the party worker, which had already prompted allegations of police misconduct from his family.
