Mayawati opposes introduction of creamy layer concept for SC and ST reservations

BSP president Mayawati issued a statement on Sunday opposing the implementation of a creamy layer concept within the reservation system for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. She stated that reservation is a sensitive and vital issue for these communities, which have historically faced systemic discrimination and deprivation. The party leader expressed her opposition through a post on social media, emphasizing that the focus should remain on the social transformation and economic emancipation of these groups.

Mayawati also criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for its position on the issue, characterizing the organization's views as a reflection of a casteist mindset. She argued that the proposal to introduce a creamy layer for SC and ST communities is inappropriate and contradicts the humanitarian objectives established by the Constitution. According to her, such discussions may serve narrow political interests while undermining the foundational goals of constitutional protections.
