Supreme Court collegium recommends four judges as High Court Chief Justices

The Supreme Court collegium held a meeting on August 6 to address leadership vacancies in several High Courts. The body recommended Justice V Kameswar Rao for the Patna High Court, Justice Ravindra V Ghuge for the Calcutta High Court, Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi for the Bombay High Court, and Justice Ashwini Kumar Mishra for the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The collegium also approved the transfer of two judges from the Orissa High Court.

These recommendations are part of an ongoing effort to fill vacancies in High Courts across India, where seven of the 25 courts currently lack permanent Chief Justices. The Orissa High Court, in particular, faces a significant shortage of judges, which has impacted its operational capacity. The collegium, which includes Justices Vikram Nath and BV Nagarathna, continues to oversee judicial appointments and transfers to maintain the functioning of the higher judiciary.
