Tamil Nadu Assembly passes resolution mandating Tamil Thai Vazhthu at official events

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay introduced a government resolution in the state Assembly requiring the mandatory rendition of the state song, Tamil Thai Vazhthu, at the commencement of all official events. The resolution received unanimous support from political parties in the legislature, including the DMK and AIADMK. During the session, the Chief Minister emphasized that the Tamil language represents the identity, culture, and pride of the state, and stated that his administration would protect these linguistic rights.

The legislative action follows a July 9 letter from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which had directed states to ensure compliance with a January 28 directive regarding the performance of the national song, Vande Mataram, before the national anthem at official functions. The state government's resolution serves to prioritize the state anthem in the sequence of proceedings at government and educational institutions across Tamil Nadu.
