Tamil Nadu MPs boycott Chief Minister Vijay's meeting on delimitation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay held a meeting with state MPs in Chennai to discuss the potential impact of the Union Government's proposed delimitation exercise. Out of the 57 MPs representing the state in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, only 21 attended the session. The participants included representatives from the Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), MDMK, and IUML. The DMK and AIADMK did not attend the meeting, with DMK MP Kanimozhi describing the event as a political drama intended to divert public attention from other issues.

The meeting concluded with a resolution urging the Union Government to freeze the number of Lok Sabha seats at 543 and maintain the current share of seats for states. Attendees also suggested that the Tamil Nadu government should pass a formal resolution in the state assembly to oppose the delimitation process. The low turnout of MPs is viewed by some as a setback for the Chief Minister, highlighting political divisions within the state regarding the approach to the proposed legislative changes.
