Earthquake in Colombia results in over 250 deaths

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale hit western Colombia on Monday morning. The tremor caused significant damage to infrastructure, including residential apartments, schools, and health centers in the cities of Pereira and Cali. Official reports indicate that at least 254 people have died, with 101 fatalities recorded in Pereira and 95 in Cali.

Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate survivors trapped under the rubble of collapsed structures, such as the Torres del Limonar apartment complex in Cali. Emergency workers have expressed hope for finding more survivors as the search enters its third day, noting that rescue operations typically remain viable for several days following such seismic events.
