Panama-flagged cargo ship MV Ocean Winner sinks off Odisha coast

A Panama-flagged cargo ship named MV Ocean Winner sank approximately 240 nautical miles off the coast of Paradip, Odisha, while en route to Singapore. The vessel, which was carrying 1,700 tons of iron ore, lost contact with its operator, Victory Star Group Co Ltd, on Saturday morning. The Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy have initiated a search and rescue operation for the 24 crew members on board, most of whom are Chinese nationals.

What Happened

The cargo ship MV Ocean Winner sank in the Bay of Bengal after departing from Paradip Port in Odisha. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Port Blair received notification of the lost communication from the vessel operator, Victory Star Group Co Ltd, at 11:48 am on Saturday. The ship was transporting 1,700 tons of iron ore to Singapore when it encountered the incident.

Indian authorities, including the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy, have deployed assets to conduct a search and rescue mission for the 24 crew members.
