Citizens protest against proposed tunnel road project in Bengaluru

Citizens and environmentalists gathered at Lalbagh in Bengaluru on Sunday to form a human chain in opposition to a proposed tunnel road project. The protest, led by the Lalbagh Walkers Association, included students, parents, and visitors attending the Independence Day flower show. Participants displayed placards calling for the protection of the city's heritage and biodiversity while expressing their intent to continue these demonstrations every Sunday.

Protesters argue that the tunnel construction will cause irreversible damage to three-billion-year-old rock formations and threaten the local ecosystem, including the Lalbagh lake. The association has stated that they intend to maintain their opposition until the project is officially cancelled. They also aim to raise awareness about the potential environmental impact to ensure the message reaches the High Court of Karnataka.
