Flash flood destroys bridge and cuts off Niti Valley in Uttarakhand

A flash flood caused by heavy rainfall in the Niti Valley of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district destroyed a metal bridge over the Tamak Nala. The incident, which was captured on video, occurred as rising water levels and debris struck the structure, causing it to collapse into the river. During the event, a vehicle belonging to the Border Roads Organisation was swept away, and a staff member remains missing. Rescue teams from the NDRF and SDRF were deployed to the site to conduct search operations despite challenging weather conditions.

The destruction of the bridge has cut off road access to roughly 15 to 16 border villages in the region. Local authorities have restricted traffic between Surai Thota and Tamak to ensure public safety and have urged residents to postpone travel in the area. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to prioritize relief and rescue efforts as the state continues to experience heavy rainfall.
