India Meteorological Department issues heavy rainfall alerts across Kerala

The India Meteorological Department has issued a series of red and orange weather alerts across Kerala as heavy monsoon rains continue to impact the state. Authorities have reported significant rainfall, strong winds, and landslides in various regions, including Idukki and Malappuram, which have caused road blockages and waterlogging in several towns. In response to the severe weather, district administrations have declared holidays for schools and colleges in multiple districts to ensure public safety.

The ongoing downpour has resulted in significant damage, with reports indicating that 28 people have lost their lives due to flood and landslide incidents. The state government has established 440 relief camps to accommodate over 41,000 displaced individuals. Officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and have restricted travel in certain regions, particularly during periods of high alert, as coordination between various government departments continues to manage the emergency response.
