Government bans specific cold and cough drug combinations for children under four

The central government has issued a directive banning the use of fixed-dose combination drugs containing chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine hydrochloride for children under four years of age. This order restricts the production, sale, and distribution of these specific cold and cough medications. Pharmaceutical companies are mandated to include prominent warnings on all packaging, inserts, and promotional materials to inform users that these products are not intended for children under four.

The decision was made following recommendations from an expert committee and the Drugs Technical Advisory Board.
