Tribal resident carried to hospital in Edamalakkudy due to lack of road access

Malayappan, a resident of Koodallarkudy in the Edamalakkudy tribal panchayat, was transported to a hospital after suffering from fever, stomach pain, and body aches. Due to the absence of road connectivity, local residents carried him on a bamboo stretcher through a dense forest for several kilometres to reach Anakkulam. From there, he was taken by auto-rickshaw to the Adimali Taluk Hospital for medical care.

Residents of the area have repeatedly requested the construction of a four-kilometre road to link Koodallarkudy with Anakkulam. Despite these appeals and similar incidents occurring in the past year, the demand remains unaddressed by the government. Edamalakkudy is recognised as the only tribal panchayat in Kerala, and the lack of infrastructure continues to pose significant challenges for residents seeking emergency medical assistance.
